Description

M95 and M96 - 2 Messier objects in Constellation Leo - The Lion.

M95 (LHS) / M96 (RHS) are alike in a number of ways - both are barred spiral galaxies of similar size - 73,000 / 93,000  LY wide,  and distances - 40 / 35 M LY away. Both belong to the M96 group of galaxies - which also includes the elliptical galaxy M105.

M95 appears to have a better defined central bar and overall spiral arm definition, whereas M96 appears more diffuse with an inner and outer spiral appearance.

The galaxies were also similar for many aspects of processing. However M96 being centrally brighter but otherwise more diffuse required different process settings than M95 - so in some instances separate masking and adjustments were required on a per galaxy basis. Time on target is definitely lacking - they are each beautiful and unique targets which I hope to revisit individually with a longer focal length.
